## Summary

The Grade 7 Gauss Contest is run by the University of Waterloo CEMC. It has 25 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes (maximum 150), on paper or online. Younger pupils may write. There is a separate Grade 8 Gauss paper — they are different contests, not two sittings of the same paper. Gauss does not qualify anyone for CMO.

## Context

Waterloo’s accessible grade 7 introduction to contest maths — 25 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes.

## Guidance

### Parent advice

Gauss is a friendly first contest, not the Canadian olympiad pathway. For IMO-track students in later years, the CMS contest to know is COMC.

### Student advice

You may write Gauss 7 even if you are younger than grade 7. You do not need Gauss to sit Pascal later — CEMC papers are an age ladder, not a qualification ladder.

### Teacher advice

2027 window 10–21 May. Order deadline 22 April. CAD $5 per participant, minimum order 10.

## How to prepare

- Try a past Gauss 7 paper under 60-minute conditions
- Review grade 7 number and geometry
